Anonymous messaged: What time does it start?

The hui starts with a pōwhiri at 5pm on Friday 22nd April, though if you can be there a little bit before that to learn a waiata together that would be great. :)

Anonymous messaged: Do we stay at the marae overnight?

Yes we stay at the marae overnight - although if you live in Wellington and would prefer to go home in the evenings and come back in the mornings that’s totally okay too, you just need to let us know when you register/prior to the hui. :)

Anonymous messaged: Hello, I am going to be coming this year as part of my youth group and I was wondering if WIFI was available? Also, are there any sleeping allocations by gender etc. or is it neutral?

Hi there, glad to hear you’re coming. Theres no wifi but theres reception so you can use phone data.
Sleeping allocations are all genders together, only separate sleeping currently is for under 16′s and the volunteers but let us know if you feel you might need something different and we can sort it out.
The best way to sort this out would be over email hello@insideout.org.nz
Looking forwards to meeting you!

FAQ,
yerbury messaged: Hey I was just wondering if you always run it Anzac weekend, just because I would really like to go but that is a busy weekend for me being a cadet in ATC.

Oh sorry to hear about the clash for you! No it hasn’t been on Anzac weekend in the past, we usually go for the middle week of the April school holidays to enable people from all across the country to attend, and it just so happened that it fell on Anzac Day this time (although the hui finishes on Monday morning). If you live in Wellington we’d be happy to discuss if you could make parts of it but not the whole time!

Anonymous messaged: are the groups already decided? i have someone else i know going to shifthui and id love to be in a group with them :)

No the groups haven’t been decided yet - if you’d really like to be in a group with someone you can send us a request with the name of you and your friend off-anon or e-mail us and we can sort it! Generally the groups are random to help everyone meet new people, though. :)

Meet Tabby - our coordinator behind all the e-mails you’ve been getting! Right now she is very underslept and has a lot of things to do, but she is very excited that the hui is just one sleep away (if she can sleep!).

Tabby is a queer femme who grew up in England and Nelson and now lives in Wellington. She is the National Coordinator of InsideOUT and also works with Wellington Rape Crisis and PrideNZ. When she’s not working on queer stuff, she’s obsessing over astrology or adding to her collection of all things polka dot!

Sign: Taurus with a Cancer Rising and Aries Moon
Favourite colour: Purple

Describe yourself in 3 words? Polka Dot Queen

What is your favourite pizza topping? Hummus and veggies! So yeah mostly I don’t eat pizza.

Why do you enjoy Hui? Hui have been some of the most magical experiences of my queer life! I love that they bring people together to connect, share and learn in a lovely environment and there is so much freedom to be yourself.

What is your favourite smell? Hmm, the berry and rose scented candle from The Warehouse

Special thing you do to make you feel good about yourself: Wear/surround myself in polka dots.
